2Amys, :) :) :) :)

CONSENSUS: Amazing. Also cheap. All in all perfection.
Genre: Pizza/Italian
Last trip cost me: $7.95 + tax and tip
Food: This is the best pizza in DC, hand down. There are a bunch of other awesome places (to be reviewed later), but 2Amys is by far the ultimate. The pizza has this unbelievably chewy crust that you could be blissfully happy eating by itself, which I firmly believe is half the criteria for pizza quality. The other half is the toppings, which at 2Amys- just as the should- are there to enhance the flavor of the crust rather than the crust serving only as something to hold the toppings. The awesome part about the pizzas in the Neopolitan section of the menu is that they're actually certified DOC (Denominazione di origine controllata) which, as in the wine industry, means that the ingredients come from a specific part of Italy regulated by the government and therefore are held to stricter production and quality stnadards. YAY for real life benefits of Wines 101: Introduction to Wines, courtesy of the Cornell University School of Hotel Administration. From what I hear it's supposed to be the only DOC pizza in the area, possibly the country. You can build your own custom pizza too, of course. They're not too big-- sized just right for two people to share and still leave room for an appetizer, salad, or dessert. The salads, particularly the arugula, are good too. I've never had any of the appetizers, but my coworker highly recommends the suppli al telefono (fried risotto balls). The desserts are good, too. My favorite is the almond cake, which is DELICIOUS and comes with this amazing sauce of cherries marinated in red wine along with a scoop of hazelnut gelato.
Getting to the food: Allow yourself a lot of time for parking. The restaurant is in a little yellow building on Macomb right before the intersection of Macomb and Wisconsin avenue, so you'll probalby have to park somewhere on Macomb street. the best way to come in is by turning onto Macomb from Wisconsin, because it's easier to find a spot in the residential blocks further down Macomb than it is on Wisconsin itself.
Service is fast and friendly once you're sitting and ordering, but arrive around dinnertime and you'll be waiting for a table for freaking ever. You have to get there early, and even then it's easily 30-45 minutes (fortunately well worth it). Also, you have to be sure you have everyone with you when you arrive. Since it's so crowded most of the time, they like a really quick table turnover and resist seating you until your entire party is there. If you're waiting for someone, no matter how quickly you insist they'll arrive, the wait staff will shuttle you briskly right on back to the bar-slash-social-area with the hordes of other waiting people, where they're hoping you'll spend more money on drinks and appetizers before you even sit down to your meal. If you do manage to convince them to seat you, they'll stare quasi-pleasantly at you until the other people finally arrive. Fortunately the atmosphere is bright, cheery and modern with a good conversational buzz in the background, so if you do end up waiting it's not so bad.
